As the financial situation that universities face looks increasingly likely to be difficult, it is all the more important that the money that is available is spent well and effectively. This is important for the good functioning of universities themselves, but it is also politically important, as politicians seek to justify the contributions made by taxpayers – and students. This seminar will take a wide-ranging view of these questions and will consider among other things how universities could do things differently to increase the effectiveness of what they do in straitened circumstances.
