HEPI Expert Policy Seminar “Higher Education in New Zealand: What might the UK learn?”

  • 19 October 2016 - 19 October 2016
  • 12.30pm -2.30pm
  • New Zealand High Commission, New Zealand House, 80 Haymarket, London SW1Y 4TQ

HEPI Expert Policy Seminar supported by the New Zealand High Commission and the NZ-UK Link Foundation

The New Zealand higher education sector is small compared to the UK’s, but it performs well in international league tables and New Zealanders have given deep thought to issues from which the UK must learn. These include:

• ensuring graduates who move overseas pay their student loans back;

• providing a red carpet to international students; and

• protecting quality when liberalising student number controls.

This HEPI Expert Policy Seminar will provide an opportunity to discuss in more detail the recommendations contained in the report.

Guest speakers:

Sir Lockwood Smith, the New Zealand High Commissioner and former Minister for Education in the New Zealand Government (1990-96)

Professor Michael Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Sussex and former Dean of Engineering at the University of Auckland (from 2007) where he was also Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The University of Auckland Tamaki Innovation Campus. Professor Davies’s presentation is available here.

Introduced by Sir Graeme Davies, Chair of the NZ-UK Link Foundation. Seminar chaired by Nick Hillman, HEPI Director.
