HEPI Roundtable Dinner with Lloyds Bank, ‘The financial challenges and opportunities for UK universities’

  • 15 October 2019
  • 6pm for 6.30pm till 9pm
  • Aston University Conference Centre

HEPI, in partnership with Lloyds Bank, are hosting a roundtable dinner at Aston University on Tuesday 15th October 2019. The dinner will consider a range of key issues:

  • With university funding under greater pressure than ever before (with, for example, the unit of resource unlikely to increase over the next 3 to 4 years), what questions should governors be asking about their university’s finances and future sustainability?
  • Augar put the spotlight on university funding and cross subsidies with a challenge to institutions to be more transparent about their finances: how can universities be more transparent and how should they be engaging with their lenders?
  • What is the right planning horizon for a university?
  • Which metrics matter?
  • What ‘line’ should sector leaders and government tread with regard to future potential distress situations?
  • And against the backdrop of the spending review and fierce competition for public funding, how can HE institutions most effectively make the business case for continued strong investment in their sector?

The roundtable will open with a briefing on key policy developments and data relating to the financial challenge theme by Rachel Hewitt, Director of Policy & Advocacy at HEPI.  This will be followed by a response from Professor Alec Cameron, Vice-Chancellor of Aston University, to kick-start the discussion around the table.
