2020 HEPI / Advance HE Parliamentary Breakfast Seminar: The geo-politics of HE – how should the sector position itself in the new world order?

  • 30 January 2020
  • 8.30am - 10.15am
  • House of Commons, London

On Thursday 30 January 2020, HEPI and Advance HE will be hosting the first in the new series of the 2020 HEPI / Advance HE breakfast seminars at the House of Commons.

Although the turbulent political times that the UK is experiencing – along with significant global upheaval – can prove challenging for universities, it can also create opportunities for the sector to assert itself in the new emerging geo-political order. As the country attempts to pivot away from Europe, how can institutions ensure their hard-won engagement with our European colleagues is not lost as the sector builds new alliances across the globe? And how should we look to government and our politicians to ensure any new policies implemented work for the sector and not against it?

Speakers

Professor Martin Paul, President of Maastricht University (and author of the recent HEPI blog: https://www.hepi.ac.uk/2019/08/23/leading-international-universities-through-brexit/)

Professor Simon Marginson, Professor of Higher Education at Department of Education, University of Oxford

Vicki Thomson, Chief Executive, The Group of Eight (Go8)
