HEPI / Kortext Roundtable dinner on Educating tomorrow: How is AI changing the future of teaching and learning for higher education?
On Thursday 4 December 2025, HEPI and Kortext will host a roundtable dinner in central Birmingham looking at ‘Educating tomorrow: How is AI changing the future of teaching and learning for higher education?’
Much has been written about students’ use of AI tools, including HEPI’s own reports on the topic. Less has been said about how academic staff are using AI, although university staff are increasingly using AI tools to improve administrative efficiency, design course content and provide feedback and assessment.
At this roundtable dinner, jointly hosted by HEPI and Kortext, we will consider:
- What tools higher education institutions are providing to students
- How AI changes what it means to be an expert in teaching and learning
- What aspects of teaching are uniquely human and should be protected from any sort of automation
- How should higher education institutions support staff in developing confidence and competence in using AI for teaching
- Where the gaps are between teaching staff and students’ use and knowledge of AI
- How we can ensure staff are preparing students for an AI-focused labour market
- How we avoid creating a ‘skills gap’ between what AI enables in industry and what universities can deliver in practice
The dinner will bring together a mix of colleagues in the higher education sector, including senior leaders and policymakers from across the region. The discussion will be chaired by Nick Hillman OBE, HEPI Director, under the Chatham House Rule.
Please note this dinner is invitation-only. For any queries, please contact Emma [email protected] or Carole [email protected].
