HEPI / Elsevier Research Conference, ‘UK Research Looking Forward’, 1 March 2023

Building on our programme of work on research, HEPI is working in partnership with Elsevier to host a half-day conference looking to the future of research in UK higher education, on Wednesday 1 March 2023 from 9.30am (registration) to 2.30pm (with lunch included). 

This half-day conference will provide a forum for senior leaders and policymakers from across the sector to discuss a range of key issues relation to the future of UK research, with sessions looking at: 

  • UK research on a global stage – reflecting on REF 2021 and the path to 2.4% 
  • The security and resilience of UK research funding in the future
  • The kind of research culture that enables researchers to take risks

Speakers include:

  • Professor Dame Jessica Corner, Executive Chair, Research England;
  • Professor Karen Holford, Vice-Chancellor, Cranfield University
  • Lord Johnson of Marylebone, former Minister of State for Universities and Science;
  • Dr Karen Salt, Deputy Director for Research Culture and Environment, UKRI;
  • Stephanie Smith, Head of Policy (Research and International), The Russell Group; and
  • Professor James Wilsdon, Professor of Research Policy at the University of Sheffield and Director, Research on Research (RoRI)
