On 19 June 2019 HEPI, in conjunction with HEPI Partner Research England, will host a roundtable dinner at the Royal Society, London. The roundtable will provide a forum for senior leaders and policymakers to discuss the key issues relating to cross-subsidies between teaching and research.

Issues for discussion include:

  • What might the outcomes of the post-18 review mean for cross-subsidies to research?
  • What would the impact of a reduction in the current cross-subsidies on universities’ ability to deliver high quality research?
  • What should universities be doing to anticipate the impact of political changes?

With a welcome and introduction from David Sweeney, Executive Chair of Research England, the roundtable welcomes guest speakers Professor Chris Day, Vice-Chancellor at Newcastle University and Ben Johnson, Ministerial Adviser on Research and Innovation at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
