On Thursday 11th January, HEPI will get the New Year off to a strong start with our first event of 2018. In conjunction with Kaplan International and London Economics, we will launch a new report uncovering the costs and benefits of international students in the UK. The results will also be broken down by parliamentary constituency.

Offering brand new figures to contribute to the debate, the report is set to end the impasse between advocates for the free movement of international students and the UK Government, which continues to include international students in net migration targets.

The launch event promises stimulating debate. Guest speakers include the Rt Hon Mark Harper MP (Forest of Dean), former Minister for Immigration (2012-14), and Paul Bloomfield MP (Sheffield Central) and Shadow Minister for Exiting the European Union, who recently acknowledged that ‘we’ve yet to win the policy change’ we wish to see in this area.

Professor Shearer West, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, and Professor Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, will also be providing perspectives from the UK higher education sector.

HEPI Director Nick Hillman, together with Linda Cowan (Managing Director of Kaplan International Pathways) and Dr Gavan Conon (Partner at London Economics), look forward to talking you through the headline findings from the report on the day and answering your questions.

The event will take place at One Great George Street, London, beginning at 8.30am and finishing by 10.45am.

If you are interested in attending, please contact HEPI Development Director Sarah Isles at [email protected] for registration details.

We look forward to seeing you there.
