On many views higher education has just lived through 10 years of plenty, thanks in part to the introduction of student fees in 1998, but also because of the Government’s view of higher education as a driver of economic growth and its growing investment. Life is likely to get tougher, and this seminar will explore the funding of higher education from a number of different angles. It will undoubtedly touch on student fees, alternatives to fees and the Government’s review, but the discussion will range more widely looking at first principles as well as current circumstances.
Speakers: Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of Universities UK; Nicholas Barr, Professor of Public Economics, London School of Economics
