HEPI-LSBU Parliamentary Breakfast Seminar: Degree Apprenticeships versus Employer Sponsored Degrees. Are we in danger of throwing out the baby with the bathwater?

  • 19 April 2016 - 19 April 2016
  • 8.30am to 10.15am
  • House of Commons

HEPI House of Commons Breakfast Seminar in partnership with London South Bank University

Universities and employers have a long-standing key role in delivering professional and technical education that is too often forgotten by policymakers. Around 10% of university students are sponsored by employers and Employer Sponsored Degrees are an important tool in balancing funding between individuals, the state and employers. Are they at risk of being forgotten about in the face of numerical apprenticeship targets? What should the relationship be between Employer Sponsored Degrees and the new Apprenticeship Levy? And what responsibilities should employers have?

Speakers to include:

  • Neil Carberry, Director for Employment and Skills, CBI
  • Nick Hillman, HEPI Director (Chair)
  • Professor Dave Phoenix, Vice-Chancellor, London South Bank University and author of the forthcoming HEPI report, ‘Making a Success of Employer Sponsored Education’
