On Wednesday 6 November 2024, with support from Taylor & Francis, HEPI will host a roundtable dinner in London to explore how to strengthen the real-world impact of academic research.
Translational research – the process of taking academic research and making it applicable to the real-world – seeks not only to produce more meaningful and applicable results, but also to support the fastest possible transfer of knowledge.
The dinner will be chaired by Nick Hillman, HEPI Director, under the Chatham House Rule.
Questions that we expect to explore about translational research include:
- What impact does it have on research integrity and public trust in science?
- What influence could the current government’s five missions have on it?
- How should higher education institutions best support their research teams to increase impact?
- What is the right balance between translational and blue-sky research?
- How can funding bodies, publishers and others better support translational research?
