HEPI-HEA Parliamentary Breakfast Seminar: Challenger institutions – useful competition or unhelpful disruption?

  • 15 March 2016
  • 8.30am to 10.30am
  • House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA

As a country, we have been unable even to agree a term to describe new higher education providers. Are they ‘private colleges’ that have little to do with the rest of higher education? Are they ‘alternative providers’ that offer similar-but-different competition? Or are they ‘challenger institutions’ disrupting the whole sector? What kind of consistency is needed or indeed useful across the sector in terms of teaching and learning? The Coalition could not legislate for a level playing-field for higher education providers of all types, but what does the future look like?

Speakers:

Professor Sir Robert Burgess, Chair, GSM London: presentation

Paul Kirkham, Managing Director, Institute of Contemporary Music Performance: speech

Professor Robin Middlehurst, Professor of Higher Education at Kingston University: slides

The seminar was invite-only.  For further details please contact Sarah Isles at [email protected]
